Archaeological sites

The province of Malaga has a valuable archaeological heritage, a reflection of the history of civilizations and cultures that settled in these lands for centuries. Today, you can visit numerous sites – in a perfect state of conservation – throughout the Costa del Sol

Roman Baths of Las Bóvedas, San Pedro de Alcántara

The Roman thermal baths of Las Bóvedas are located on the right bank of the mouth of the river Guadalmedina, next to San Pedro de Alcántara, in Marbella. The site, which was discovered in 1926, dates from the 3rd century A.D. and is considered one of the most unique of this period in all of Spain.

Finca del Secretario archaeological site, Fuengirola

During the Roman occupation, Fuengirola was called Suel, from that time today we know a little more thanks to the discovery of the site “Finca del Secretario”. In the area were found remains of some thermal baths, in a perfect state of conservation. During the excavations a sculpture was also found, known as the Venus of Fuengirola, which dates from the 2nd century BC and can be seen in the local History Museum.

Ruins of Bobastro, Ardales

In the municipality of Ardales, in the area known as Mesa de Villaverde, are the ruins of the mythical fortress of Bobastro, a ninth-century cave complex considered the most important in the province of Málaga.
